INTO THE FROZEN WILD
A winter expedition into Mongolia’s remote northern wilderness.
Beyond the frozen lake. Beyond the last road. Into the heart of the taiga.
There are still places in this world where winter reigns supreme. Where temperatures plummet to minus thirty, forests stretch endlessly beneath a blanket of snow, and the rhythms of life are dictated not by clocks or calendars, but by the land itself.
This is one of those places.
Join us on an extraordinary expedition into Mongolia’s far north, where our journey begins on the frozen expanse of Lake Khuvsgul, before taking us deep into the Siberian taiga, travelling on foot with reindeer carrying our supplies.
Our adventure opens on 27th February, at the spectacular Khuvsgul Ice Festival, a celebration of winter held on one of Asia’s most magnificent freshwater lakes. Beneath towering mountains, the frozen surface comes alive with traditional games, horse-drawn sleighs, ice sculptures, music and the vibrant colours of Mongolian culture.
For two days, we’ll immerse ourselves in this remarkable gathering, experiencing the warmth, hospitality and traditions of a people who have learned not simply to endure winter, but to celebrate it.
And then, we leave it all behind.
Beyond the festival lies a very different Mongolia.
We travel north towards the remote forests of the taiga, where the roads disappear, the landscape grows wilder and the true expedition begins.
Working alongside local reindeer herders, we’ll venture into this extraordinary wilderness on foot, with reindeer carrying our equipment and supplies. Our days will be spent moving through snow-laden forests, crossing frozen landscapes and navigating a world transformed by the depths of winter.
Here, the pace of life changes.
The crunch of snow beneath our boots. The gentle movement of reindeer through the trees. The sharp bite of Arctic air against our faces. The profound silence of a wilderness that stretches far beyond the horizon.
We’ll establish camp in the snow, share stories around the fire and experience the simple, deeply satisfying rituals of expedition life. In a landscape this remote, the smallest comforts take on a new significance, and the skills of staying warm, travelling safely and working together become part of the adventure.
This is also an opportunity to learn from the Tsaatan, Mongolia’s reindeer-herding people, whose extraordinary knowledge of these forests has been passed through generations. Travelling with local hosts, we’ll gain a deeper appreciation of the relationship between people, animals and an environment that demands both resilience and respect.
But this expedition is about more than reaching somewhere remote.
It’s about what happens when we strip away the noise of everyday life and step into something bigger than ourselves.
It’s about discovering the quiet confidence that comes from facing the elements, learning new skills and realising just how capable we can be.
It’s about genuine connection — with the wilderness, with the people we meet, and with those who share the journey.
There will be cold. There will be challenges. There will be moments of extraordinary beauty that no photograph could ever quite capture.
And there will be the kind of memories that stay with you long after you’ve returned home.
This is not a conventional holiday.
It’s an invitation to experience one of the world’s last great wildernesses in its most uncompromising season.
To travel slowly. To venture further. To feel the raw exhilaration of being truly alive.
The frozen north is calling.
Spaces will be strictly limited for this small-group, Megan Hine-led expedition.
