September 2027 | Two expedition groups

Step into the world of Mongolia’s nomadic Kazakh people, journey through the wild landscapes of the Altai Mountains and experience the remarkable traditions of the eagle hunters at the Festival of the Eagles.

Join expedition leader Megan Hine for an adventure into one of the most remote corners of Mongolia, where ancient traditions remain part of everyday life and the landscape stretches far beyond the horizon.

Travel on horseback, spend time with local eagle hunting families, sleep beneath vast star filled skies and discover a way of life shaped by the land, the seasons and generations of tradition.

In September 2027, two small expedition groups will come together for the Festival of the Eagles.

• Group One: 3rd–15th September 2027

• Group Two: 10th–21st September 2027

• Festival of the Eagles: 12th–13th September 2027, when both groups come together.

THE INVITATION

The heart of this expedition is the Festival of the Eagles, a celebration of Kazakh culture and the extraordinary bond between eagle hunters and their golden eagles. There are several of these festivals where the Eagle hunters converge to compete with their birds and other traditional sports. I have chosen a small and intimate festival, taking place on 12th-13th September, which allows us to be close to the action, to interact with the competitors and to take part should you wish without hundreds of other visitors.

For two days, both expedition groups will come together to experience the festival, before continuing their respective journeys.

TWO GROUPS, ONE ADVENTURE

This expedition has been arranged across two overlapping departures, giving you the opportunity to choose the dates that work best for you while sharing the Festival of the Eagles with the wider expedition group.

Group One | 3rd–15th September 2027

Begin your journey in Mongolia before travelling into the Altai region and immersing yourself in the landscapes and traditions of the Kazakh eagle hunters. Meet the second group for the Festival of the Eagles on 12th–13th September, before returning home on 15th September.

Group Two | 10th–21st September 2027

Join the expedition as the first group is already underway, coming together with them for the Festival of the Eagles on 12th–13th September. After the festival, continue the adventure for a further nine days, discovering more of the region and its people before your expedition concludes on 21st September.

Whichever departure you choose, you’ll experience the festival as part of a shared adventure, led by Megan and supported by an experienced local team.

This is an adventure for those who want to experience somewhere beyond the usual tourist trail, who are curious about other cultures and who are happy to embrace the unexpected.
